WINNER, S.D. — A female from Winner died Saturday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash east of Winner.

Preliminary information indicates that a 2012 Ford Edge was eastbound on U.S. Highway 18 when it went off the roadway, into the north ditch and hit a tree. 28-year old Kari DeMers, the driver, was thrown from the vehicle. She was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation.
