WEEKEND SPORTS: Area High School Basketball Games continue, Mitchell Wrestling & Basketball competing, College Basketball, Minnesota Vikings & Timberwolves games

Area Sports

Saturday’s Basketball Games:

  • Iroquois/Lake Preston @ Madison at 11am (girls)
  • Rapid City Stevens @ Huron at 1pm (DH)
  • Howard @ Wessington Springs at 1pm (DH)
  • DeSmet @ Chester at 2:30pm (girls)
  • Wagner @ Lennox at 3:30pm (girls)
  • Andes Central/Dakota Christian @ Irene-Wakonda at 4pm (DH)

Mitchell

The Kernel basketball teams continue their busy week of games. Saturday they’ll face the Rapid City Central Cobblers in the World’s Only Corn Palace. Girls JV and sophomore boys play at 10am, followed by the freshman and JV boys at 11:15am. Then the varsity begins at 12:30pm with the (RV) Kernel girls facing the Cobbler girls and then the No. 3 Kernel boys will follow and take on the Cobbler boys and play at 2:30pm.

The Kernel wrestling teams are both busy on Saturday competing in different locations. The boys will have a varsity tournament in Sioux Falls against SF Washington at SF Washington high school. Competition starts at 9am. The girls will have a varsity tournament as well, but they’ll be at Canton high school taking on Canton. They will start at 10am.

The Kernel gymnastics team is in action on Saturday afternoon. They’ll be hosting the Jill McCormick Invite in Mitchell at the Mitchell high school main gym. Teams will hit the beams and mats for competition at 11am.

DWU

The men’s basketball team (5-8) will be traveling to North Dakota on Saturday for their afternoon matchup with the Valley City State Vikings (4-7). It’s a rematch from their game in the Corn Palace on Nov. 12 when the Vikings beat the Tigers, 88-84. Tipoff in Valley City, ND at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse will be at 2pm.

SDSU

The (RV) Jackrabbit women’s basketball team (10-3) will have another daunting task on their hands on Sunday afternoon when they host the No. 2 Texas Longhorns at First Bank & Trust Arena in Brookings, SD. Tipoff is at 1pm and will air on the CBS Sports Network.

NFL

The Minnesota Vikings (6-8) are playing in the Noon game on FOX this Sunday. They’ll travel to face the New York Giants (2-12) in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium.

NBA

The Minnesota Timberwolves (17-10) are at home this Sunday when they host the Milwaukee Bucks (11-17). They’ll be in the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN. It will air on NBA League Pass with tipoff at 6pm.
