Mitchell Basketball

The Kernel basketball teams each took on Sioux Falls Jefferson last night. The (RV) Kernel girls keep their winning ways alive after defeating the Cavaliers, 60-55. Addie Siemsen and London Hajek led the way with 15 points each. While Nia Talley added a 13-point and 10-rebound double-double. The win makes it now nine-straight wins for Mitchell, and they improved to 10-3 overall. For the boys, they got off to a strong start against the Cavaliers and won the opening quarter 21-13. Though they could not maintain their lead as SF Jefferson came storming back and ended up winning, 67-61 over Mitchell. Colton Smith & Owen Raml led the Kernels with 17 points each. This now marks a four-game losing streak for Mitchell, which is a first under head coach Ryker Kreutzfeldt and also the first streak of its kind since the 2020-2021 season. Mitchell boys fall to 5-7 overall.

Mitchell Wrestling

The Kernel wrestling teams will be competing in a Varsity Dual tomorrow. They’ll be on the road taking on Pierre at Pierre Riggs high school. The girls begin at 6pm and the boys start at 7pm.

DWU Softball

The Tiger softball team was selected to finish sixth in the 2026 Great Plains Athletic Conference Coaches Preseason Poll. DWU received 75 points after finishing 34-16 last season. They’ll have Stephen Oswald Jr serving as their new head coach this year as well. The Tigers begin their season on Feb. 6 in a tournament in Sioux Center, IA.

SDSU Basketball

The Jackrabbit basketball teams are both scheduled to play tonight against St. Thomas. The women will be on the road in St. Paul, MN and tipoff is set for 8pm airing on the Summit League Network. The men will be home at First Bank & Trust Arena in Brookings, SD with tipoff at 6pm and airing on CBS Sports Network.

NBA

The Minnesota Timberwolves will make their way to Canada tonight as they prepare to face the Toronto Raptors. They’ll play at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, ON with tipoff at 6:30pm and it will air on NBA League Pass.
