Mitchell Basketball
The Kernel basketball teams played against the Tea Area Titans at home last night. The girls were first and it was very much a game of runs throughout this game as Mitchell began it on a 7-0 run, but the (RV) Titan girls answered with a 16-6 response. That continued off and on during the game until the fourth quarter when the Kernels exploded for 27 points in the fourth. They ended up winning it 59-50 and Londyn Hajek led all scorers with a season-high 19 points. Then the (RV) Kernel boys battled with the (RV) Titan boys and that game had a strong start for Mitchell, but another sluggish tied season-low second quarter where they only scored five points. Though Mitchell ended up forcing overtime off an inbounds pass to Colton Smith for an easy basket in the paint. In OT, they were outscored 11-2 and lost, 57-48. Smith led the way with 16 points and a season-high 21 rebounds. His 16 points moved him into 4th place all-time on the all-time scoring list sitting now at 1,153 points passing both Bart Friedrick (1,149) & Scott Morgan (1,151).
Mitchell Wrestling
The Kernel wrestling teams Varsity Triangular set to be at Brandon Valley high school has been postponed.
DWU Basketball
The Tiger basketball teams took the Morningside Mustangs on the road last night for more Great Plains Athletic Conference action. It was the No. 9 Tiger women playing first and they ended up getting their 10th straight win after a 75-63 road victory. Avery Broughton led the scoring with 17 points and was one of five players in double figures. They now sit at 16-4 overall and 12-2 in the GPAC. For the men, it was a neck-and-neck battle with (RV) Morningside in the first half trailing by just four in a low scoring affair. Though it was a 59-point second half from the Mustangs that propelled them to victory over the Tigers, 84-64. Anthony Riggans led DWU with 17 points and Randy Rosenquist Jr had a near double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds. The Tiger men fall to 11-10 overall and 6-7 in the GPAC.
DWU Wrestling
The Tiger men’s wrestling team is competing this morning. They are in Marshall, MO at the Bruns Athletic Center for the Missouri Valley Invitational. It is a two-day event that will continue tomorrow and it begins at 10am both days.
SDSU Basketball
The Jackrabbit men’s basketball team faced St. Thomas on the road. It was back-and-forth all night long between the two teams, but SDSU fell short of a win to help get themselves back above .500 and lost to St. Thomas, 74-69. Leading the scoring was Joe Sayler with 24 points. The Jackrabbits fall to 10-11 overall and 3-3 in the Summit League.
NBA
The Minnesota Timberwolves faced the Chicago Bulls at home last night. They were back home, but home court wasn’t enough to get them back on track against Chicago and they fell, 120-115. Julius Randle led Minnesota with 30 points in the loss. The Timberwolves have now lost four straight games and now sit at 27-18 overall.
