South Dakota will receive up to $2.6 million to upgrade and safeguard rail infrastructure for two projects. The Ringneck and Western Efficiency and Growth Project will improve the economic growth, safety, and efficiency of the Ringneck and Western Railroad located just east of Plankinton. The project includes activities, materials, and support services necessary to construct two 1,500-foot transload tracks and construct a 558-foot industrial lead track and a concrete maintenance pit in an existing locomotive maintenance building. Other project work would include a loadout spur, six turnouts, and a roadway for vehicular and transloading equipment access. A 40 percent match up to $1.8 million will be provided. The other project will improve safety along the Rapid City, Pierre, & Eastern Railroad. A 20 percent match up to $800,000 will be provided. These investments in communities will play a crucial role in strengthening the supply chain by moving goods faster and at a lower cost.
