MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) South Dakota is joining the nation in celebrating 988 Day on September 8th, highlighting the impact of the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The Department of Social Services and The Helpline Center say the day is meant to raise awareness of the three-digit number through community events and art installations in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Vermillion, and Brookings. Since its launch in 2022, the Helpline Center has answered more than 37,000 calls, texts, and chats in South Dakota, with over 97 percent stabilized without further intervention. Officials say the 988 service is saving lives and breaking down barriers to mental health support. This year’s theme is “Compassionate Help. Anytime. Anywhere.” For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here
