PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) South Dakota lawmakers are proposing what they call a comprehensive plan to cut property taxes by about 25 percent. The state’s Comprehensive Property Tax Task Force, led by Senator Chris Karr and Representative Jon Hansen, recommends a $120 million rebate to homeowners, a 5 percent reduction in state spending, and redirecting $105 million in sales tax growth entirely to property tax relief. The plan totals $348 million in relief and includes expanded support for seniors and disabled veterans, along with reforms to make government spending more efficient. Lawmakers say the proposals will be a priority in the 2026 session. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
