MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — A Sioux Falls man is facing multiple charges after police say he pulled a knife and threatened an officer during a traffic stop tied to suspected impaired driving.

Rudolph Gabe Jr., 42, was arrested following a stop that began around 4:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, according to a Sioux Falls Police Department summary reported by Dakota News Now.

Police said detectives saw a white Chevy Traverse being driven recklessly near 33rd Street and Western Avenue, including running a red light and striking a curb. A marked unit located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near West 10th Street and South Lincoln Avenue.

During the stop, the officer noticed signs of impairment and asked Gabe to exit the vehicle for a DWI investigation, police said. Once outside, the officer saw the driver reaching behind his back. Police said Gabe then pulled out a black knife and jabbed it toward the officer while telling him to “check out my knife.” The officer was able to grab the knife and take Gabe into custody, according to the report.

Gabe was booked on charges of aggravated assault on law enforcement, DWI and carrying a concealed weapon. Police said he was also on parole for robbery in South Dakota.

Gabe is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
