Popular Pizza Chain Applying to Sell Alcohol at its Mitchell Location

MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The Mitchell Pizza Hut location is applying with the city to sell alcohol.

While many customers may naturally pair pizza with beer or wine by making a stop at the store on the way home, it is not common to be able to get both from the same place, at least when it comes to the big chains. Pizza Hut operates nearly 7,000 restaurants across the United States, with fewer than 600 offering a pint glass on the side.

The decision is left up to the franchisees. The Mitchell location is run by Hut Dakotas LLC, which is actually based out of Ohio. The operating group has several Pizza Hut and Applebee’s locations in its portfolio. Applebee’s restaurants each feature a full-service bar, so the group is comfortable with the extra liability that comes along with selling it.

City council reviews all applications for an alcoholic beverage license. They will take up the issue at the meeting on Monday night.
