MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Voters in the Platte-Geddes School District will decide March 3 whether to approve a $19 million bond issue to help replace the district’s nearly 100-year-old middle and high school building.

School leaders say the current facility, built in 1924, has aging infrastructure and space constraints that affect instruction, including cramped classrooms and limited space for special education services.

District information shared with patrons describes the bond as part of a larger, roughly $29 million facility plan that would consolidate K-12 students on the current elementary site.

If approved, the bond would require at least 60% voter support to pass, the district has said. The district has also outlined estimated tax impacts tied to the proposal.

The Mitchell Republic reported the bond would add about 93 to 99 cents per $1,000 of taxable valuation.
