Mount Vernon man charged with murder in shaking death of 3-year old

A Mount Vernon man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 3-year-old child last month. 35-year old Shawn Delancey was arrested last week and remains in custody on $500,000 bond. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. Delancey is also charged with first-degree manslaughter and abuse or cruelty to a minor. The child died on March 14th after being shaken violently by Delancey. Delancey was babysitting the child at his Mount Vernon residence. He told authorities that he was attempting to calm the child after the child acted out several times. The child later died from his injuries.
