At around 6:30 PM, the Mitchell Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire at the 614 North Rowley.

Upon leaving the station, a large plume of smoke was noted by the Fire Captain and a request for more help from other departments was made. Both Ethan and Mt. Vernon Fire Departments responded to aid in the firefighting efforts. Upon arrival on scene, fire crews found a two-story residential structure heavily involved with fire. Crews immediately pulled a hand line for an initial defensive attack. The east and north sides of the structure sustained the heaviest fire. Crews were able to knock down the fire enough to make entry through the front door facing Rowley Street.

At around 8:10 PM, Fire Command reported the fire to be extinguished and were now switching to overhaul operations. At 2106 hours firefighters completed overhaul and the scene was turned over to fire investigators.

Based on first responder testimony, cell phone footage, and fire patterns present in the home, it appears the fire started on the east side of the structure. Individual(s) were home at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported. Investigators were able to identify the area of origin, and at the time of this publication, this incident is still under investigation.
