MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The city of Mitchell’s proposed 2026 budget is balanced, largely because Lake Mitchell won’t be drawn down next year. According to the Mitchell Republic, during an October 6th work session, the City Council approved redirecting $1.2 million in previously earmarked lake debt funds toward the city’s $82.6 million spending plan. Projects funded include shoreline improvements, a new basketball court at Hitchcock Park, and a proposed five-hole short course at Lakeview Golf Course. City Administrators say the budget still faces public hearings November 3rd and final adoption November 17th. The plan cuts overall spending by $2.5 million compared to 2025.
