A Mitchell woman who was sentenced to eight years in prison after defrauding a Mitchell company was denied a sentence modification on Tuesday. 39-year old Kylie Shultz and her husband, Ramon Shultz, each pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful use of a computer system to obtain money. In addition to their prison sentences, they were ordered to pay nearly $40,000 in restitution and fees when they were sentenced in July 2020. Kylie Shultz sought to have two years of her sentence suspended, as her husband received a six-year sentence. Judge Chris Giles acknowledged that Kylie Shultz has been a model prisoner and has paid a substantial portion of the restitution while participating in the work release program. However, Judge Giles noted that during the original sentencing, he found her more culpable in the crimes, which is why her sentence was longer. The judge also noted that Kylie Shultz will be eligible for parole in September.
