The Twins escape with an improbable series win. Minnesota was down to their final out Thursday afternoon with the tough righty reliever Lucas Erceg on the mound for the Royals. No one was on base and the team had managed only one hit to that point. Erceg plunked Ryan Jeffers on the elbow, then had Royce Lewis in a two-strike hole before giving up a single back through the middle.

Josh Bell walked after being down 0-2 and Erceg was lifted for Fargo native Matt Strahm to get a favorable lefty-on lefty matchup with Kody Clemens coming to the dish. Strahm poured in two fastballs, and again, the Twins were down to their final strike. He then hung a slider that Clemens deposited into the seats in right center at Target Field for the 4-3 walk off victory.

The Twins improve to 55-55, only 2.5 games back of the White Sox for first place in the AL Central.

WNBA

The Lynx get to nine wins in a row on Thursday night, and this one was a laugher. They roll the Toronto Tempo 104-72 on the road. No individual numbers stood out, it was just a consistent team effort. Five Lynx players were in double figures. Napheesa Collier, Courtney Williams, and Olivia Miles each had 16 points. No starter was in the game for more than 25 minutes.

Amateur Baseball

District 5B action wraps tonight. Alexandria plays the Parkston Rays for the championship at 8. Before that, it is Winner/Colombe taking on Platte with a State Am spot on the line.
