MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — A potential race is taking shape for the Mitchell School Board as the filing deadline approaches.

Mitchell Superintendent Joe Childs said Vanessa Klock has taken out a nominating petition to run for the board. Current board member Deb Everson has also filed paperwork to seek re-election.

Everson holds the only seat up for election this year on the Mitchell School Board, which has five members.

Candidate petitions must be returned to the Mitchell School District business office by March 24. If more than one candidate files for the seat, the school board election will be held June 2 alongside South Dakota’s state primary election.

The upcoming filing deadline will determine whether Mitchell voters see a contested school board race this spring.
