The Mitchell Kernels boys basketball team shot 74.4% from the field on Tuesday to take a 76-62 win over Watertown and improve to 2-0 on the season. Watertown (1-1) was led by Drew Norberg’s 25 points, but it came off of 7-of-20 shooting, thanks in large part to the defensive effort employed against him.

Dylan Soulek led Mitchell in scoring with 21 points. Steele Morgan scored 19, and Caden Hinker added 14. The Kernels boys take on Brookings on the road on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Mitchell girls lost to Watertown 33-29 on Tuesday. The Kernels led 17-16 at halftime after trailing 9-2 after the first quarter. Mitchell finished the game 7-of-38 from the field and shot 14-of-29 from the free throw line. Sarah Stoebner led Mitchell with 11 points, six rebounds and five steals.

The Kernels are back at home on Thursday at 7 p.m. to take on Brookings.
