Missing Minnesota Man Found Dead in Mitchell

MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — A missing Minnesota man was found dead in Mitchell last week.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension had been searching for 32-year-old Matthew Timmons since May 27th. He left his home in Columbia Heights, and was last seen in Rice County in a 2005 Ford Explorer, so the search was focused there for several days. It was then expanded to several surrounding states, before ending in Mitchell.

After a welfare check at a Mitchell hotel, local law enforcement was able to positively identify Timmons’ body. The cause of death has not been released at this time. He did not have needed medication with him when he left his home.

South Dakota law enforcement agencies are heading the investigation. They are coordinating with Minnesota law enforcement, including the Columbia Heights Police Department.
