PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) South Dakota lawmakers are back in Pierre today for a special session to decide the future of a new $650 million state prison. Governor Rhoden’s draft legislation matches the recommendations of his Prison Reset Task Force, calling for construction at the Benson Road site in Sioux Falls. The plan finalizes a land swap from the old Lincoln County location and makes clear the new facility won’t be used for federal immigration detention.
