Laverna Lorraine Koth, 93, Parkston

Parkston – Laverna Lorraine Koth, 93, went to her heavenly home Sunday, October 22 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. Funeral service will be Friday, October 27 at 10:00 am at Memorial Baptist Church in Parkston. Visitation will be Thursday, October 26 from 5 to 7 pm at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Laverna was born December 1, 1929 to Solomon D. and Theresia (Uttecht) Winter at their home near Parkston, SD. She attended country school, graduated from Parkston High School and then graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from University of South Dakota at Springfield. She taught school for 25 years and then substituted in the Parkston School District for years. Much of her time was spent working outdoors on the farm. Music brought her much joy! She loved singing in the church choir and belonged to the Barbershop Belles. She sang with the Barbershop ladies in Mitchell and Arizona for a total of 31 years. Laverna was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Memorial Baptist Church. She was united in marriage to N. Leland Koth on June 4, 1950. To this union four daughters, Beverly, Diane, Lori and Cindy, were born. Laverna and Lee enjoyed spending many winter months in Mesa, AZ.

Those mourning her loss are her 3 daughters: Beverly (Allan) Yeager of Ida Grove, IA; Diane (Rick) Meyer of Scotland, SD; and Cindy (Darwin) Sonne of Alexandria, SD; 5 grandchildren: Jennifer (Aaron) Thompson; Justin Meyer; Nathan (Sarah) Meyer; Heather (Paul) Ziccardi and Celeste (Alex) Karan; and 13 great-grandchildren: David Meyer, Andi Meyer, Jadon Meyer, Moriah Meyer, Emily Thompson, Sam Thompson, Levi Thompson, Micah Meyer, Elijah Meyer, Grace Meyer, Charlotte Karan, Analise Karan, and Loriana Ziccardi.

She was preceded in death by his parents; husband, Leland; a daughter, Lori Ann Bateman; a son-in-law, Stanley Bateman; a grandson-in-law, Alex Karan; and a great-grandson, Isaac Thompson.
