MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation System is receiving a major boost as Joe and Jennifer Kirby announced a $1 million donation toward the new Frank Olson Indoor Recreation Center.

The facility is currently in the early planning and design phase. The Kirby family’s contribution will specifically support the Kirby Pool within the new recreation center.

“Joe and I are very excited to announce that we’ll be giving a $1 million gift to the city of Sioux Falls for the Kirby Pool at the Frank Olson Indoor Recreation Center,” Jennifer Kirby said. “It helps with physical health as well as mental health, and I’m an avid swimmer myself.”

Jennifer Kirby also shared a personal connection to the project, noting she grew up swimming at the existing Frank Olson pool.

The Kirbys have a history of supporting aquatic facilities in Sioux Falls. They were also donors to the recent Midco Aquatic Center project, which included an expansion of locker room facilities.

City officials say the donation represents a significant step forward for the recreation center project and highlights continued community investment in parks, wellness, and recreational opportunities for residents of all ages.
