BRANDON VALLEY, SD — The Mitchell Kernels girls basketball team defeated Brandon Valley 53-49 on Friday night in the Class AA SoDak 16 to qualify for the state tournament in Sioux Falls next week.
Mitchell led 24-20 at halftime with 11 first-half points by both Sawyer Stoebner and Addie Siemsen. The Kernels and Lynx battled for the lead throughout the fourth quarter, but made free throws, a few clutch shots and rebounding proved to be enough to secure the victory and state berth for the Kernels.
Hilary Behrens led Brandon Valley with 22 points in the loss. You can watch the final seconds of Friday’s game in the video above. The Kernels will face Sioux Falls Jefferson next week in the first round of the Class AA tournament.
