MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Mitchell’s largest park is set for upgrades in 2026, pending final city council approval. According to the Mitchell Republic, more than $100,000 is earmarked for improvements at Hitchcock Park, including new perimeter lighting at the Aquatic Center pool, concrete for basketball courts, electrical outlets for events, and new sunshade structures. However, plans to install full roadway lighting were dropped to save nearly $266,000 for other city projects. Council members say the focused pool lighting will boost safety while avoiding unnecessary costs. The city’s final budget hearing is set for November 3.
