MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Friends of Firesteel is turning first to Lake Mitchell residents as it works to raise $3 million toward the city’s $25 million lake restoration project. The nonprofit has already secured $1.7 million in pledges, including major gifts from the Sam F. Weller Foundation, the Mitchell Area Charitable Foundation, and several six-figure private donors. While city officials say full funding for the dredging is in place, Mayor Jordan Hanson welcomed the nonprofit’s support. Donors will be recognized on a plaque once the long-debated restoration project gets underway in 2026. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
