MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A Davison County father and son were honored Wednesday for their heroism during a trailer fire earlier this year. Former jail sergeant Shawn Jerke and his son, Deputy Trestin Jerke, rushed into a burning trailer in April, waking a couple and helping them and their dog escape. They also moved vehicles away from the flames before firefighters arrived. The surprise ceremony brought emotional thanks from David and Alyssa Sweet, who say they wouldn’t be alive today without the Jerkes’ quick action.
