MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — All Blizzard treats sold at area DQs on Thursday come with a side of miracles.
The iconic fast food and ice cream chain is holding its annual Miracle Treat Day fundraiser, with at least one dollar from every Blizzard sold going to the Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, the region’s only Children’s Miracle Network affiliate.
Dairy Queen was founded in 1940 but did not feature the Blizzard until 1985. Within a year, it had become the signature dessert. In 1987, DQ sold 175 million Blizzards. It began with four potential candies mixed in, and the classics are still around today like Oreo, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Butterfingers, and Heath bars.
More adventurous eaters could choose the Choco Brownie Extreme, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, or Turtle Pecan options, plus others from the signature creations lineup. Then there are the monthly specials, which include s’mores and strawberry angel food cake in the heart of summer.
DQ first partnered with the Children’s Miracle Network in 1984, and the pairing has raised over $195 million during that time. Miracle Treat Day was added in 2006.
