Davison County Redraws Precinct Maps for Primary Elections

MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Davison County is simplifying how it runs primary elections.

New precinct maps were voted on last week for the runoff election involving the Republican candidates for governor. Absentee balloting has started with the results set to be announced on July 28th. The Board of Commissioners decided to keep the maps for all primary elections going forward.

From now on, there will be only five precincts. The first covers Rome and Tobin Townships and Ethan Town. Precinct 2 is centered in Baker, Blendon, Mt. Vernon, and Union Townships and Mt. Vernon City.

Precinct 3 is the first to involved part of the city of Mitchell. It starts in the surrounding townships of Badger, Beulah, Lisbon, Mitchell, Perry and Prosper, plus a majority of Mitchell’s Ward 4, which is the area northwest of Highway 37 to Lake Mitchell and the airport. The fourth precinct includes the southern edge of Ward 4 and all of Ward 1, the southwestern portions of the city. The last precinct is made up of Wards 2 and 3, the eastern half of the city.

The commissioners passed the motion unanimously.
