Mitchell Basketball

The Kernel basketball teams start their SoDak16 games tonight with the girls game. The (RV) Kernel girls will be at home for their final home game of the year in the Mitchell high school to host Spearfish at 6pm. If they win, they’ll travel to Rapid City, SD next weekend to play in the Class AA State Tournament from March 12-14. 

Mitchell Hockey

The Marlins girls hockey has a busy weekend on the ice. They’re competing in their Varsity State Tournament right here in Mitchell, SD. Games are being played in the Mitchell Activities Center through Saturday. 

DWU Softball

The Tiger softball team, just like the baseball team, are out in Tucson, AZ for some Tucson Invitational action as well. They play in a pair of games today. At 1pm they’ll face Indiana Wesleyan (IN) and then take on William Penn (IA) at 3:30pm. Both games will be at Lincoln Park – Field 6. 

DWU Wrestling

The (RV) Tiger men’s wrestling team continues on in the NAIA National Championships today. Still in Wichita, KS with a few athletes wrestling, and they will get started again this morning at 11am at the Heartland Credit Union Arena. On day one, Jagger Tyler finished 2-1 in his matches. Dropping his first in a 5-4 decision, but winning his other two – first by a 9-6 decision and second by an 11-2 major decision. Teagan Foreman was 1-2 on the day as he lost his two matches with one being a 22-11 major decision and the other a 2-1 decision. The win he got was by decision and was 13-11. For Kipp Cordes, he had a 1-2 first day as well. Losing both matches by decision with one being 4-3 and the other 5-3. His lone win came by fall in 6:25 (7-6). The Tigers are 35th in team score after day one. 

DWU Baseball

The Tiger baseball team is all the way over in Tucson, AZ continuing on in the Tucson Invitational today and through the weekend. Yesterday they took on Division II Southwest Minnesota State. They battled with the Mustangs, but in the end fell short by a score of 8-7. They’ll face them again today at 11am at the Kino Sports Complex – Field 4.  

SDSU Basketball

The Jackrabbit basketball teams opened up play in the Summit League Championship Tournament at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, SD yesterday. The No. 2 seed Jackrabbit women got the job done in the Quarterfinals against No. 7 seed Kansas City, winning it 75-61. Brooklyn Meyer led the team with 26 points in the win. They will face the winner of No. 3 seed South Dakota and No. 6 seed Denver. For the No. 7 seed men, it didn’t end as well for them. They took on the No. 2 seed St. Thomas and were down by just two at the half. Though another lackluster second half from SDSU caused them to fall by a score of 80-67. Ending their season finishing 14-18 overall and 7-9 in the Summit League 

NBA

The Minnesota Timberwolves took on the Toronto Raptors last night at home. Both teams shot 42 percent or better from beyond the arc in the game, but in the end, it was Minnesota who came out on top, 115-107. They were led by Anthony Edwards who had 22 points. The Timberwolves are now 40-23 overall.
