American Legion suspends Mitchell Baseball affiliation and sponsorship

Mitchell, S.D. (MITCHELL NOW)  The American Legion Department of South Dakota has suspended Post 18’s continued affiliation and sponsorship of the Mitchell Baseball Association until all indictments and court proceedings have been completed. That means there will be no Mitchell Post 18 American Legion baseball this summer. Six Mitchell American Legion baseball players are facing rape charges following alleged incidents from last summer during a baseball tournament in Rapid City. In a January 26th email, the question was asked whether another sponsor could step in and if players need to proceed through a formal release process to play Legion Baseball this summer. The South Dakota American Legion’s Athletic Commission needs to research and return a response. Mitchell’s Junior Legion team will play under the South Dakota Class A organization this summer.
