Representative Dusty Johnson and Senator Mike Rounds easily won their respective Republican primary races on Tuesday. Johnson defeated Liz Marty May, while Rounds was a winner over state legislator Scyller Borglum. Mitchell City Councilman Steve Rice defeated Tim Goldammer in the lone Mitchell City Council race. Rice tallied 348 votes to Goldammer’s 286. In the Republican primary race for state representative in District 20, incumbents Lance Koth and Paul Miskimins defeated Barry Volk. Koth had 40 percent of the vote, Miskimins had 35 percent, and Volk scored 26 percent. House Majority Leader Lee Qualm of Platte was defeated in District 21 by Erin Tobin. Tobin notched 61 percent of the vote. There is a possible recount in the District 19 state representative race, where incumbent Kent Peterson walked away with 35 percent of the vote, Jessica Bahmuller had 33 percent, and Marty Overweg had 32 percent. Davison County had 28 percent voter turnout, while the state total was 25 percent.
