South Dakota top Republican political leaders are pleased after President Donald Trump signed the United States Mexico Canada Trade Agreement on Wednesday morning.

Sen. Mike Rounds and Congressman Dusty Johnson were at the signing ceremony.

Johnson says he looks forward to seeing the added jobs and trade opportunities this agreement will bring to the nation’s economy.

Rounds says the agreement will expand trade opportunities for South Dakota’s farmers, ranchers and manufacturers.

Senator John Thune says the modernized deal will help open markets for our farmers and ranchers who feed the world.

Governor Kristi Noem also chimed in, saying the USMCA is a major win for South Dakota producers, adding that USMCA rebalances and modernizes the old rules of the road into a 21st century, high-standard trade deal that better serves the interests of South Dakota farmers, ranchers, and businesspeople.

Before the USMCA goes into effect, Canada must ratify it.
