Prescribed Burn Set For Wednesday At Lake Mitchell

The City of Mitchell Public Works Department is planning a prescribed burn at Lake Mitchell today. The burn is intended to clear vegetation along the east side of the West End Bridge. Prescribed burning is a widespread restoration management tool for wetlands to allow for more fresh vegetation and plant growth. Governing agencies recommend a prescribed burn between the months of March and May. As a result of the burn, the West End Bridge and Harmon Drive between 407th Avenue and Canal Circle will be closed today. The burn is expected to last most of the day. The Public Safety Department will monitor weather, temperature, wind speed, and direction.
