Plans for the former Palace Mall, located at 1801 North Main Street in Mitchell, were discussed during yesterday’s Mitchell Planning Commission meeting.  The commission previously approved a conditional use permit allowing changes to be made to the building, including adding storage units.  The building was purchased by Mitchell Storage, LLC this past fall.

Mitchell architect Larry Jirsa says demolition work will be done to make space for around 500 storage units.  Sizes will range from small lockers to large units, including an area to store large vehicles such as boats and RV’s.

Current tenants Family Dollar and New China Buffet are expected to remain in their respective locations.  Mitchell Telecom is expected to relocate elsewhere in the mall until February.  Norm’s and Mark’s Barbers is considering relocating within the mall as well.
