Firefighters responded to a fatal fire in Mitchell last night. Mitchell Fire Marshal Shannon Sandoval says the fire happened in the single-family home at 515 North Wisconsin at around 12:15 AM. Dispatch received a call that a small child was inside the residence.  Responding firefighters found a deceased 6-year old girl.  It appears that two other small children fled from the house after the fire started.  The residence was damaged significantly. This investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Mitchell Police Division, the Mitchell Fire Division, The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the South Dakota State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.
