The number of flu cases is soaring in South Dakota. The South Dakota Department of Health says there are slightly more than 5,800 cases confirmed in the state, with more than 1,000 cases confirmed in a single week. The number of flu-related deaths has doubled as well since last month. Seven people have died from the illness. South Dakota’s flu trend contrasts the national trend, where flu cases are starting to decrease. Flu prevention tips remain the same – cover your mouth when you cough and sneeze and always wash your hands. A flu shot is also recommended.
