The Mitchell Planning and Zoning Commission yesterday approved rezoning ordinances for a new housing development on the east side of Mitchell.  The Ridge View on Foster development is located on land on the corner of Foster Street and East 8th Avenue.  The land will be donated from Avera Queen of Peace Hospital to the Mitchell Area Development Corporation.  Affordable houses will then be built on the land.  Avera Queen of Peace Hospital President and CEO Tom Clark talked about the importance of the project for workforce development.

Concerns expressed by residents of the neighborhood included drainage issues, lot sizes being too small, and traffic issues if retail and personal or professional businesses are allowed in the neighborhood.  Clark says many concessions have been made since the original proposal was offered last month.

The Mitchell City Council will ultimately decide the fate of the proposed development.
