A proposal to develop new housing east of the Avera Queen of Peace campus was tabled yesterday by the Mitchell Planning Commission.  Avera Queen of Peace made the announcement earlier this month that it would donate nearly 22 acres of land to the Mitchell Area Development Corporation for the development of housing for middle-income earners.  More than 50 residents in that area submitted letters opposed to the project, saying the aesthetics of the proposed development do not match the existing neighborhoods.  Increased traffic was also a concern.

Mitchell Area Development Corporation CEO Mark Vaux, who also sits on the Planning Commission, says this development would help bring more people to Mitchell.

The commission voted unanimously to table the request.
