The deadline for residents with damage from the September severe storms, tornadoes and flooding to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency is Friday, January 31.

Since the Nov. 18 declaration, more than $12.2 million in federal disaster assistance has been provided to eligible applicants in 12 counties and two reservations, including more than $4.6 million in FEMA grant funding and over $7.6 million in SBA disaster loans.

Although the disaster recovery centers in South Dakota have closed, homeowners and renters with disaster-related damage in designated counties and reservations can still register with FEMA until the deadline by visiting us online at DisasterAssistance.gov. Lines are open daily from 7 a.m.-11 p.m.

January 31 is also the deadline for businesses, private nonproft organizations, homeowners and renters with property damage to apply for a low-interest disaster loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
