Eight Escape From Women’s Prison In Pierre

PIERRE, S.D.- A search is underway for eight female inmates who left a minimum-security unit in Pierre.

The inmates left the Pierre Community Work Center without authorization at around 8:45 last night by exiting an exterior door.

Missing are 25-year old Philomene Boneshirt, 27-year old Jordan Wakeman, 25-year old Sylvia Red Leaf, 32-year old Alice Richards, 28-year old Kayla Lamont, 23-year old Carly Schoneman, 28-year old Pamela Miller, and 30-year old Kelsey Flute.  Boneshirt is in prison on a simple assault charge as well as a drug charge.  Flute is in prison on a DUI charge.  Red Leaf is in prison on a drug charge and for eluding.  Lamont is serving her sentence on a robbery charge as well as for a drug charge.  The rest of the women are serving sentences for drug charges.

Women’s Prison staff began escape procedures and law enforcement was notified. The South Dakota Highway Patrol aircraft was used to assist ground operations in its search for the inmates.

Leaving a non-secure correctional facility without authorization constitutes second-degree escape, a Class 5 felony punishable by a maximum of 5-years in prison.
