Miss Texas R’Bonney Gabriel Crowned Miss USA 2022

Miss Texas R’Bonney Gabriel took home the crown at the 2022 Miss USA competition in Reno, Nev.

Miss North Carolina Morgan Romano was awarded runner-up followed by Miss Nebraska Natalie Pieper.

R’Bonney made history as a titleholder by being the first Asian American woman to earn the Miss Texas USA title. She was also the first Filipina-American to hold the title.

The Mitchell School District says longtime coach Deb Thill will retire at the end of the 2025-26 school year after 35 years leading Kernels athletics. Thill was the first volleyball coach at Mitchell High School and has been the program’s only head coach, the district said.
