DWU Announces Winners From Fall Scholarship Day

MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University recently announced fall scholarship winners for the class of 2020.

30 high school seniors competed last month during DWU’s Fall Scholarship Day on Nov. 22 for the university’s most prestigious scholarships. Students with outstanding academic status, leadership potential and commitment to serving others were invited to campus to meet with faculty, staff and students, all while exploring opportunities at DWU.

The following is a list of Presidential Leadership and Randall Scholarship winners – DWU’s most competitive scholarships:

Presidential Leadership Scholarship winners: To qualify for a Presidential Leadership Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and a 21/980 ACT/SAT score and must meet certain leadership/service qualifications. The scholarship is $68,000 over four years.

Regan Gerlach, Ethan, Ethan High School, is the daughter of Aaron and Mandy Gerlach

Madison Kontz, Flandreau, Flandreau Public High School, is the daughter of Brad and Kelly Kontz

Randall Scholarship winners: To qualify for a Randall Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.5 GPA and a 24/1090 ACT/SAT score and must meet certain leadership/service qualifications. The scholarship is $84,000 over four years.

Emma Bertram, Armour, Armour High School, is the daughter of Erin and Kari Bertram

Sierra Heidinger, Stickney, Corsica-Stickney High School, is the daughter of Larry and Leanne Heidinger

Audrey Koesters, Omaha, Neb., Millard West High School, is the daughter of Robert and Julie Oesterle

Hunter Shanks, Bennington, Neb., Bennington High School, is the son of Rick and Marian Shanks

DWU also awarded John Wesley, Presidential and Trustee Scholarships to deserving students.

The following is a list of John Wesley, Presidential and Trustee Scholarship winners:

John Wesley Scholarship winners: To qualify for a John Wesley Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.7 GPA and a 27/1210 ACT/SAT score. The award is for $13,000 to $14,750 and is renewable for up to 10 semesters if the student remains in good standing.

Elizabeth Duffy, Fort Pierre, Stanley County High School, is the daughter of John and Patti Duffy

Will Lauseng, Watertown, Watertown High School, is the son of Chad and Kris Lauseng

Trey Ortman, Canistota, Canistota High School, is the son of Ryan and Bridget Ortman – John Wesley/athletic scholarship.

Presidential Scholarship winners
To qualify for a Presidential Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and an 18/860 ACT/SAT score. The award is for $8,750 to $13,000 and is renewable for up to 10 semesters if the student remains in good standing.

Alyssa Burke, Rapid City, Rapid City Central High School, is the daughter of Michael and Tammy Burke – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Alyssa Crnic, Bennington, Neb., Bennington High School, is the daughter of Dan and Tina Crnic – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Jaycee Fischer, Wakonda, Beresford High School, is the daughter of Jessica Fischer and James Hanson – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Reagan Grossi, Vail, Ariz., Empire High School, is the daughter of Joe and Jan Grossi

McKayla Gunderson, Pierre, T.F. Riggs High School, is the daughter of Kathy Gunderson and Chris Derry – Presidential/athletic/Christian Leadership Scholarship

Ashley Korber, Pierre, T.F. Riggs High School, is the daughter of Brian and Heather Korber

Lena McCoy, Estherville, Iowa, Estherville Lincoln Central, is the daughter of Patrick and Michelle McCoy – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Hailey Nankivel, Rapid City, Rapid City Stevens High School, is the daughter of Ryan and Kim Nankivel – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Destinee Nelson, Henry, Henry High School, is the daughter of Kendall and Tonya Nelson – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Wyatt Reitmeier, Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls Washington High School, is the son of Jason and Stacy Reitmeier – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Brendan Schneiter, Florence, Mont., Florence-Corlton High School, is the son of Chand and Karen Schneiter

Austyn Smit, Howard, Howard High School, is the daughter of Shawn and Amie Kidd – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Khloe Tieman, Madison, Rutland High School, is the daughter of Jan and Kristi Tieman – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Carson VanBeek, Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls Christian High School, is the son of Daron and Sherri VanBeek – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Trustee Scholarship winners
To qualify for a Trustee Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.5 GPA and a 24/1090 ACT/SAT score. The award is for $12,000 to $13,750 and is renewable for up to 10 semesters if the student remains in good standing.

Carter Jahnig, Hurley, Viborg-Hurley High School, is the son of Lester and Stephani Jahnig

Shaylee Jensen, Homer, Neb., Homer Community School, is the daughter of Stephanie Jensen – Trustee/athletic scholarship

Becky Koepke, Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School, is the daughter of Tony and Wendy Koepke – Trustee/athletic scholarship

Brenna Mockler, Vermillion, Vermillion High School, is the daughter of Scott and Nicole Mockler

Sydney Morley, Pierre, T.F. Riggs High School, is the daughter of Troy and Veronica Morley – Trustee/athletic/Christian Leadership Scholarship

Autumn Wilkinson, De Smet, De Smet High School, is the daughter of Dan and Amy Wilkinson – Trustee/athletic scholarship.
