Dakota Discovery Museum Welcomes Registration To Its Annual Summer Program

MITCHELL —  Dakota Discovery Museum, in Mitchell, is welcoming registration to its annual summer program which begins July 3.

The program is set up as three separate weeks under one theme, “Across This Nation,” featuring the history of the country and focusing on South Dakota. It is geared toward children ages 5 to 11. Cost to attend is $25 per child per week, or register for all three weeks and the total cost is $60 per child.

“The beauty of this program is that parents can sign up their children for just one week, two weeks or all three – it’s entirely up to them, and there is a discount for registering for all three weeks,” said Rod Brown, museum manager. “It’s a wonderful educational experience for children and it’s also a fun activity.”

Brown said that the three-week structure also allows families to work the program into already busy summer schedules, and also works well for grandparents with visiting grandchildren.

Week one is “This is My Country: The History of American,” July 3, 5 and 7, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Week two is “All Aboard! Trains, Plains and No Automobiles,” July 10, 12 and 14, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. And Week three is “The Old Homestead: The Land and its People,” July 17, 19 and 21, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The museum is located on the east side of campus at Dakota Wesleyan University, along McGovern Avenue.

To register, call 996-2122 or go to the museum’s website at  www.dakotadiscovery.com/events.
