Dakota Discovery Museum Announces Opening Of The Winter Art Show

Dakota Discovery Museum is pleased to announce that the first annual Winter Art Show will officially open on Dec. 14 with a free, public reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The show will run from December to the end of February 2018.

The Winter Photography Art Show features local and regional artists, seasoned professionals, and newcomers to exhibiting art in a gallery setting.  Using the medium of photography, featured artists are exhibiting their works that illustrate fall, winter or holiday themes in South Dakota.

“The camera, in the hands of the artist, becomes a tool for exploration, creating a unique access to the surrounding world,” said Rod Brown, manager of the Dakota Discovery Museum. “The lens creates a way for that which is familiar, known and common to become something new and vibrant, bringing a fresh perspective and deeper understanding to the world around us. That deeper understanding can in turn, produce profound changes in our emotions, thinking, and ultimately actions toward others and the world around us.”

The vision of Dakota Discovery Museum is to become the preeminent regional institution that tells the story of the people of the Dakotas. The museum is currently operating on its winter schedule, which is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is closed when the Dakota Wesleyan campus is closed. Normal admission during winter hours is $5 per adult or senior, and $3 for youth ages seven to 17.

Please direct any questions to Rod Brown at 605.996.2122 or Allison Russell at 605.933.0154.
