The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office says a man walking on Highway 50 east of Yankton was hit and killed Saturday night.  Lieutenant Clint Clites says 44 year old Troy Roberts was walking in the westbound traffic lanes for reasons that remain undetermined.

The accident was reported at approximately 9:15 p.m. Saturday.

70 year old Edwin Hansen, rural Yankton, was the driver of the vehicle. He told authorities he was traveling at 45 miles per hour when the collision occurred on the east side of Yankton.  Clites said Hansen is not being charged or ticketed.

Roberts was transported by Yankton County EMS to the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, where he was declared dead.  Clites said blood tests will be done on Roberts to determine if an intoxicant might have contributed to the accident.
