Tornado Touches Down In Yankton County

MAYFIELD, S.D. (AP) — No injuries or damage was reported from a tornado that touched down in northeastern Yankton County.

The Daily Press & Dakotan reports that a funnel cloud that dropped out of a small storm cell touched down several times in the Mayfield area over the course of about half an hour Thursday night.

Separately, storms on Thursday dropped record amounts of rain on both Aberdeen and Pierre. The National Weather Service says both cities set records for the date — Pierre with 0.73 inches and Aberdeen with 1.25 inches. Aberdeen’s record had stood for two decades, and Pierre’s for nearly half a century.
