The Mitchell School Board will have a new member. Cory Aadland was the only person to turn in a petition for the school board seat that is up for election. That seat is currently held by Dana Price. Price is not running for re-election after nine years on the board.
Yesterday was the deadline for Democrats and Republicans to turn in petitions for state, county, and city offices. In District 20, Republican Mike Vehle of Mitchell is running for re-election to his Senate seat. Republican Josh Klumb of Mount Vernon, Republican Dave Stevens of Mitchell, and incumbent Republican Representative Tona Rozum of Mitchell have filed petitions for the House, as has Democrat Jim Schorzmann of Mitchell.
There will be one Davison County Commission race, with incumbent Commissioner Gerald Weiss of Ethan running against Leon Baier of Mitchell.
Three current Mitchell City Council members will run unopposed, with former City Council member Dan Allen filing a petition for the Ward 3 seat currently held by Phil Carlson. Carlson is resigning from the council in April to take a new job in Pierre.
Independent candidates for office have until April 29th to file petitions.
