Gregory Man Indicted In Death Of Baby

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A southern South Dakota man has been indicted on alternative counts of second degree murder and first degree manslaughter in connection with the death of a 3-month-old baby.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley on Tuesday announced the indictment against 20-year-old Adam Joel Bruns of Gregory.

The attorney general’s office on Tuesday did not return calls from The Associated Press seeking details of the Feb. 25 incident that authorities say caused the baby’s death.

Bruns is in custody. Jail records do not list his attorney.

A grand jury also indicted Bruns on alternative counts of aggravated assault and felony child abuse.

Authorities say a second-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory life sentence. The maximum penalty for first degree manslaughter is a life sentence.
