PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — The superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol has honored four people for saving the life of a 2-year old in a fatal crash last September near Mitchell.
Farmer Jacob Hohn and college students Abby Albin, Corey Ramold and Brandon Sandoz received the Superintendent’s Award for Meritorious Service on Friday.
The four responded to the crash by securing the child, performing first aid and taking care of vehicle fires.
Highway Patrol superintendent Col. Craig Price says their actions are heroic.
The two drivers in the crash have died.
The Highway Patrol has also awarded the surviving toddler a “Saved by the Belt” award.
