Representatives from eight communities met with Governor Daugaard Chief of Staff Dusty Johnson in Mitchell yesterday for a Downtown Summit.  Johnson offered guidance on preliminary discussions for a statewide downtown coordinating program.  South Dakota and seven other states currently do not have such a program.  It would allow Main Street programs in the state access to funding opportunities and technical assistance currently unavailable to them.  Johnson suggested that the organizations prepare a proposal and present it to the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.  Representatives from Mitchell, Brookings, Madison, Aberdeen, Pierre, Huron, Rapid City, and Sioux Falls attended yesterday’s Downtown Summit.
