Diaz Trial To Begin In December

Jury selection in the trial of a woman accused of killing a Mitchell teenager will begin in December. 19-year old Maricela Diaz is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, first-degree arson, and second-degree aggravated kidnapping in the death of Jasmine Guevara in 2009. Diaz has pleaded not guilty to the charges. She and Alexander Salgado allegedly lured Guevara to a rural area in Hanson County, stabbed her, and left her body in a burning vehicle. Salgado pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and is serving a life sentence in prison. Diaz’s trial will take place in Minnehaha County.
